Women Like Us / I AM

AM is an ongoing photography-based project presented as a digital slide show of passport size photographs and a series of mid-length portraits in print form, Women Like Us. Images are periodically added creating an expanding archive. Merging approaches of documentary photography and portraiture, I embarked on a journey with my camera looking for ‘women’ who are quietly defying the rules and roles that are socially prescribed for them. Presented here are portraits of people from working class backgrounds who I met in mofussil towns. They are confident, vulnerable, charming, comfortable in their bodies and fearless in the gaze that they return to us.
