Don't worry about me, I'll be fine

In this collaboration with Visiting Artist Teresa Marrin Nakra, programmer Tim Ledlie and I turned Teresa's Affective Carpet into a polyphonic sampler—the plaid pattern of the carpet corresponded to different sample locations in a nearby computer's RAM. One of the more interesting behaviors that the Affective Carpet facilitated was pressure-dependent sample triggering: pressing the same place on the carpet with different levels of force would result in different samples playing. This, combined with the grid layout of a traditional sampler, meant that the user experience was close to three-dimensional, and that playing the carpet was a very visceral and nuanced experience..
